Primo is from the Spring 2011 "Italian" litter between Sergio and Klementine, and was the first puppy ever born here at Abbaio, lending to his name. He was always impressive from the moment he was born. If you can believe that a newborn puppy can have "presence", he sure did. Primo is not only lovely to look at but has the typical loving and goofy personality that I strive for. He picked up two points his very first weekend out at 6 months of age and was then shown exclusively in the bred by exhibitor class to finish his championship at 18 months! On the way to his championship, Primo won a Best of Breed from the classes over a top special. In his one competitive weekend as a special he was awarded 2 Bests of Breed for 3 points towards his grand championship and ended 2012 by completing his junior courser title. In February 2013, Primo went to live with junior handler Kari Burkholder where he competed in the breed and juniors, winning a group placement in their first show together and maintaining the position of #1 Ibizan Hound junior handler for 2013/2014/2015! Primo won several group placements and a supported entry Best of Breed whie in the ring with Kari, and then came out of retirement in July 2016 to finish his grand championship winning best of breed and then went on to win the National Owner-Handler Seires Best in Show! He is the first smooth and the first male Ibizan to win this honor and is the first Best in Show winner bred by Abbaio!
Primo passed away in March of 2018 and has left a large empty space in the hearts of everyone who knew him, especially the Burkholder family who gave him a wonderful life.
